Tori Belliachi rants a bit about change. Not much else.
And lo’, we have my occasional column to fill up the voids left from the lack of anything else. This issue is “changes”, a theme heartlessly stolen from the last assembly of my high school life. Why? Because things are changing! The ethos of the fandom is changing! There is revolution in the air tonight and we gonna get it on, awright!
Ahem, anyway, times are inexplicably changing. The popular webcomic Ozy & Millie will come to an end before the year is out, and undoubtedly there will be more births and closures. Just looking at the grimly named “2008 deaths” on WikiFur brings you a small slice of the things we have lost so far this year. However, in the mantra of pure awesome brought to us by the Python’s, we shall look on the bright side of life; the “2008 births” category is a much more pleasing sight. A massive collection of furries, podcasts, websites and seven - read seven - new planned or passed conventions this year alone.
To quote the future leader of the free world - Barack Obama - this is change we can (really) believe in. And it is this change that we document here today, it’s why this edition of FT is all messy and chaotic, for out of chaos comes change - or something to that effect, at least. From the next issue, should all things come to plan, then the Furtean Experience will be not like a bad tribute band, but a great immersive experience where people like you can directly contribute to the ‘zine, rate articles, and do stuff so amazing I haven’t thought of it yet.
In my personal life change is also happening, I’ve left high school and are about to hit the next level of life. The furry life has changed too, I’m now a fruit bat; not a major change, granted, but it is to someone who spent two years as a canine. At least now I feel happier, maybe I was spending two years barking up the wrong tree, so to speak.
Well, I’m rambling, and I have a news section to write. In short, stay safe and remember not to fear change - but to embrace it.
